The virtual zebrafish lateral line data club is a monthly meeting of (mostly) zebrafish researchers who (mostly) study hair cells in the lateral line to understand more about their physiology. The origins of this meeting began when I requested some feedback on my research from the Kindt lab at the NIH. The “new” 2020 virtual environment of Zoom meetings allowed me to give a seminar across the country with very little preparation besides putting a talk together, and the discussion was ultimately so great and useful that everyone involved decided it was an event that needed to continue. I am now a co-organizer of the meeting with Dr. Katie Kindt. The meetings consist of trainees giving talks ranging anywhere from 20 min to an hour about their work, and receiving discussion and feedback from top names in the field, and from around the world. It is my goal that these meetings provide fellow hair cell researching trainees visibility, valuable feedback, and potentially form new connections worldwide.
